In today’s day and age, the mighty electric skateboard is starting to appear in more and more places. And with the growing interest in this mode of electrified micro-mobility, an ever-increasing arms race has developed for which board will be branded as the fastest electric skateboard in the world. Before even considering buying one of these, realize that these are not like a kid’s electric scooter. They are quick and sometimes dangerous machines. 

There’s plenty of caution that must be deployed when owning one of these insanely fast electric skateboards. After all, some of these boards get up to speeds that can easily be life-threatening. Before considering taking any of these boards up to top speed, you might want to invest in some longboard riding protective gear. 

While many of the fastest electric skateboards are often a few thousand dollars, you’ll also find a few for under $500. Many of the fastest boards are made in the longboard form factor as they are built for both speed and increased stability. A wipeout at 40 mph is going to hurt a lot, if not worse. With all those forewarnings and cautions stated, electric boards with high speeds can be a tremendous amount of fun. Many of these can be taken off-road where there are no cars to contend with or even be ridden through fields of grass where wipeouts will be significantly less painful.

So I suppose the first question you should ask yourself is… should you ever take a skateboard up to 50 mph? Probably not. Is it super cool that a company is out there that makes an electric skateboard that can go this fast? Oh yeah! This beast is a fully custom-made board, meaning that BIOBoards didn’t just pick parts off the shelf to create this speed demon. Of-course, if this is your first e-skateboard, this is not the board for you. It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s probably best used by those more accustomed to the art of longboarding down long, winding hills and reaching speeds nearing 50MPH or more.

Available in a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive motor configuration, the Plutonium comes with 4500W sensored motors. Look at it this way. Even the most powerful electric bikes on the market top out at around 2000W, and those are meant to power a full-sized bike. So yeah, 4500W of power X 2 is an absolutely insane amount of electrical power to push a skateboard and its rider.

I’m not entirely sure what the point of being cheeky about the top speed your product can achieve is, but Lacroix does not provide an official top speed for the Nazaré Lonestar. But by all accounts from owners around the world, this board has been capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 mph. An impressive feat for a board with all the bells and whistles included.

On-road or off-road, this electric skateboard is equally comfortable at tackling both types of terrain. Designed with a gorgeous profile and built-in LED headlights, this electric skateboard is truly something special once you dig into all the specs. Plus, it’s been designed with a special high-speed stability system designed to eliminate wheel wobbles.

This electric skateboard comes from a maker that’s been in the game for quite some time. In fact, MetroboardX has been making electric skateboards since 2004. This all-terrain board is billed as the ultimate carving machine, and with a top speed of 36 mph, it’s definitely got a legitimate claim to that boast. When making your purchase, you can choose whether you want the board to come with street wheels, all-terrain wheels or both, which is frankly a very nice option to have.
